Dr. Seuss Rolls out an Augmented Reality App

The beloved children's book enterprise is turning its pages into technology

By Sarah Sapeda

San Diego–based Dr. Seuss Enterprises has teamed up with Welsh tech company Sugar Creative to put a high-tech spin on their beloved children’s books and change the way the next generation learns their ABCs. The companies will roll out a series of augmented reality apps that, when viewed through a smartphone or tablet camera, superimpose digital imagery based on Dr. Seuss’s work into the real world. The first, set to be released this spring, is based on Dr. Seuss’s ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book! Additional books are being evaluated for AR capability.

“The potential for AR and VR to support learning is enormous,” says Sugar Creative Managing Director Jason Veal. “We’re only just scratching the surface of how these meaningful applications are changing the game for how children learn.”
