The Queen of Funk is in the building—er, in our city. Following the release of her newest album, Hello Happiness, Chaka Khan is hitting a cross-country tour with a stop in San Diego on August 24 as part of the San Diego Symphony’s Bayside Summer Nights concert series.

Unlike other shows in the series, the Symphony’s sitting this one out to give Khan and special guest Macy Gray free rein of the stage. Both female vocalists are Grammy Award winners, with Khan alone having 10 gold gramophones to her name.

She first took disco by storm in the ’70s as the lead singer of Chicago’s funk band Rufus before spinning off a solo career in the ’80s, with hits like “I’m Every Woman,” “Tell Me Something Good,” and “I Feel for You.” Ain’t nobody stopping this one-way ticket to Funkytown.
