With Opening Day at the Del Mar Race Track approaching, it's the perfect time to go shopping for a new chapeau at The Village Hat Shop. The newly remodeled space in Hillcrest has an extensive selection of brands and styles for women, from simple to extravagant, with a price range of under $20 to $340 and up. The shop also carries hats for men, including straw fedoras and ivy caps.

The shop will be hosting two trunk shows, where you can get the latest designer looks just in time for Opening Day. On Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 12pm-3pm, designer Arturo Rios will be showcasing new designs, including cocktail pieces like headbands and fascinators (a style that popular at the royal wedding), plus wide brim hats that would be ideal for the races.

On Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 11am-2pm, new designer Natalya Nikitina will be showcasing hats from Betmar, including hats from the Plaza Suite collection. These hats are ideal if you want a more traditional look with modern trim and details. Styles available include wide brims, brettons, headbands, boaters, lampshades, and more.

Trunk shows are a great opportunity to meet the designers and find a style that works best with your face shape. If you are shopping for a completely new outfit, Bernadette Ramirez of The Village Hat Shop suggests starting with the hat, and finding a dress to match.
