The Facts About Scoliosis

This concerning spinal condition affects more than just kids

Everyone’s spine curves to some degree, but in certain people that curve becomes too prominent, and they develop a condition called scoliosis. Scoliosis can’t be prevented and for the most part, it’s cause is unknown. The most common type affects teens and preteens. You may remember your pediatrician asking you to bend forward during your annual check-up to check for curvature. If scoliosis is caught early enough, doctors can prescribe a treatment to straighten the spine. Though less common, scoliosis can also present in adulthood. It’s here the treatments get tricky, but recent medical advances are making scoliosis care in adults less invasive and safer. Read more about scoliosis treatment here
