MCASD hosts TNT on July 16

Celebrate the opening of three new exhibitions at MCASD Downtown with guided tours, art-making activities, live music by Chicano Batman, food, and drinks

On Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 7-10 PM, TNT (Thursday Night Thing) will celebrate the opening of the Museum’s newest exhibitions: Anya Gallaccio, John D. Spreckels and The Impossible Railroad, and Pond Lily Over Mushroom Cloud: Byron Kim Adapts the Black on Black Cosmology of Maria Martinez.

Inspired by recently opened exhibitions, TNT is an energetic art and music mash-up event hosted at the Museum’s downtown location three to four times a year. This TNT will serve as the grand unveiling of three new exhibitions, two of which reference the Museum’s historically relevant location and its connection to the Panama-California Exposition of 1915.

Local DJ Kyle-m will kick the music off at 8:45 PM with an all-vinyl throwback set, and musical guests Chicano Batman—fresh off their tour with Jack White and recent performance at The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival—will perform at 9 PM. Fab Lab San Diego will lead art-making activities with 3-D printers, drawing inspiration from the large scale artwork by Anya Gallaccio on view. Organic food truck bites will be available for purchase from Green Truck, and there will be a cash bar ($5 beers, $6 cocktails).

TNT is free for Members, $8 for students and seniors, and $10 for non-members. MCASD Members will also receive their choice between a free beer or cocktail.

Membership at MCASD starts at just $5 a month. Non-members can join today by paying half the price of the $10 TNT ticket, which will grant them access to the event and one free cocktail that evening. Visit http://mymcasd.mcasd.org/membership for details on how to become an MCASD Member today.
