California is the fifth largest economy in the world. Californians pay the highest taxes in the country, yet our courts are still underfunded. The nonprofit Change for Justice is working at the state level to change that by supporting legislation that will increase funding for our courts and address practices that clog up an already overwhelmed system, such as the pervasive problem of perjury.
Jennifer Moores, former Padres minority owner; Dr. Lori A. Love, clinical psychologist; and former TV news reporter Lynn Stuart are committed to helping pass overdue reform by supporting bills that help make our children safer, provide due process for domestic abuse victims, and increase enforcement and penalties for people who mislead and misuse the court’s valuable time.

Since 1989, Kim Gibbens has been CEO of the San Diego Center for the Blind, the only nonprofit of its kind in the county. Vision rehabilitation services for the blind are not funded by federal grants or covered by insurance, so programs like this are imperative. Through Gibbens’s leadership, SDCB has become one of the foremost vision rehabilitation programs and a model of service delivery for adults with impaired vision. SDCB also recently established the only low vision clinic in San Diego, offering services that include a comprehensive evaluation by a low vision optometrist and low vision occupational therapist. Prior to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Gibbens led the charge to remodel an old building to a state-of-the-art facility that includes accessibility features for the blind and for other people with disabilities.
