The San Diego Yacht Club is training sailors for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, as the inaugural San Diego Olympic Classes Regatta sets sail October 5–7 in the Coronado Roads.
The annual race serves as conditioning grounds—or, waters—for SDYC sailors hoping to qualify for the 2028 Olympics, as locals like J. J. Fetter, Mark Reynolds, and Lowell North have in previous years. North will be giving away the regatta trophy in recognition of the 50th anniversary of his 1968 Olympic gold medal.
Take your vessel south of Zuniga Jetty to see the fleet of hopefuls helming Finns, Lasers, Stars (shown here), and more boats up close, or take your binoculars to Coronado Beach or Cabrillo National Monument to wave ahoy from farther away.
