Golf isn’t just a sport. It’s a way to build friendships, clear the mind, flex creativity, and get some much-deserved alone time. It’s also a unique way to network with business partners and clients outside of the office. A great deal of business is conducted on the golf course, and those who don’t play can feel left out.

With the intimidation factor on full tilt, many women are searching for a place where they can learn the game in a comfortable and encouraging setting, and new resources are making it easier than ever for shy newbies to hit the greens.

Heidi Richardson

PGA Professional

Encinitas Ranch Golf Course

A golf instructor for 20 years, Richardson has created a program where women can feel comfortable, have fun, and learn how to play with other women who are experiencing the same insecurities and intimidation. (Strength in numbers, right?) Instruction takes place on the far side of the driving range at the private training center, where students can concentrate on improving their game without distraction or an audience. Rules and general etiquette are addressed, too, giving women basic knowledge and confidence.

When choosing a golf instructor, male or female, make sure they are either a PGA or LPGA Professional. Never take lessons from someone who is not recognized by the PGA or LPGA.
