St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center’s sixth annual Tea by the Sea brought in $15,000 to support art programs for adults with developmental disabilities. The event Jan. 18 at the Marine Room in La Jolla included champagne, a signature cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and music by Fred Benedetti. Tea by the Sea also showcased artist Deseray Lee, who takes classes offered through Sophie’s Gallery. Lee specializes in wearable art, ceramics, and mosaics.

The New Children’s Museum’s Innovators LAB will get a boost from a NEA grant

The New Children’s Museum has been granted $25,000 to support its Innovators LAB, a maker space where art, design, and STEM fields converge. The National Endowment for the Arts’ Art Works grant will support two artists-in-residence, who will explore art-making techniques and develop skill-building activities for children age 7-12.

San Diego Repertory Theatre is also receiving a National Endowment for the Arts Art Works grant. The $20,000 grant will go toward San Diego REP’s production of House of Joy, the tale of an elite female bodyguard who risks everything to help an abused queen escape.
