San Diego Oasis Spreads Holiday Cheer

San Diego Oasis staffers and volunteers passed out more than 1,800 books to students of La Mesa’s Murdock Elementary in a special holiday edition of their yearlong efforts to ramp up reading. Aside from distributing new and gently used books, the nonprofit pairs older adult volunteer literacy tutors with kids who struggle with reading. Have books you’d like to donate? Drop them off of the San Diego Oasis Lifelong Learning Center in Grossmont Center.

The San Diego Women’s Foundation partied with a purpose Dec. 12—to help survivors of sex trafficking get a fresh start. The nonprofit’s holiday drive and its annual "Holiday Party with a Purpose" brought in more than $3,000 in goods and donations to benefit GenerateHope, which provides safety, community, and individualized support to survivors. This past June, SDWF also granted GenerateHope $60,000 to support its recovery and transition programs.

Del Mar Highlands Town Center made the holidays brighter for San Diego schools, kids, police, and firefighters. More than 300 people were on hands as the shopping center’s leadership presented checks totaling $39,000 to local schools’ Save the Arts Program, San Diego Fire and Police departments, and Toys for Tots. The evening event Dec. 10 also featured a visit from Santa, seasonal treats, and performances by hundreds of local students.
