On Apr. 27 The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will present 15 women who have served the San Diego community through their commitment to making a difference to the organizations they represent. The luncheon is being held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and all proceed will be used to help San Diego’s neediest men, women and children who seek assistance at the Salvation Army’s downtown Center City Corps.

On Apr. 16 the first of two San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS fundraisers was held in Carlsbad. This is the 26th year for Walk MS events that raises funds for research and programs and services for people with MS. The second Walk MS is scheduled for Apr. 23 at NTC Park at Liberty Station. The events help raise $460,000. Presenting sponsors include Sycuan Casino and other sponsors are Biogen, Sanofi Genzyme, Mother To Baby, and Langers Juice. The National MS Society’s national Walk MS sponsor is Novartis.
The American Association for Dental Research has named Ed Martinez, former President and CEO of San Ysidro Health Center, as recipient of the 2016 AADR Honorary Membership Award. Martinez was named for his leadership in developing San Ysidro Health Center’s first National Institute of Health-funded research project. AADR’s mission is to advance research and increase knowledge for the improvement of oral health, to support and represent the oral health research community and to facilitate the communication and application of research findings.

Casa de Amparo received a $15,000 gift from Union Bank and the San Diego Chargers as the beneficiaries of the Game Changers Program. Casa de Amparo kicked off Child Abuse Prevention Month by hosting their 3rd Annual Come Home to Casa event. Guests toured the campus and participated in Casa’s annual supply drive by donating wish list items.
Casa de Amparo’s 20th Annual Meet the Chefs is being held on Apr.24 at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar. Proceeds will directly benefit Casa de Amparo’s programs that treat and prevent child abuse and neglect throughout San Diego County. Sponsors include Datron, Directed Electronics, DJO Global, Union Bank – The Private Bank, Harrah’s Resort, San Diego Chargers and Wells Fargo.

Gillispie School held its annual gala on Mar. 7 at the House of Blues. This year the gala was titled “The Big Easy Bask for Gillispie.” The event netted $230,000 for the school. Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Ryan Montana provided the musical entertainment. Underwriters for the evening were Osman and Lesli Kibar, Jon and Kathliene Sundt and Patsy and Dave Marino.

AT&T presented a $5,000 check to the Alpha Project on Mar. 24. The donation raised by AT&T’s employee volunteer network called AT&T Pioneers, will be used to assist the individuals who are a part of the Alpha Project, an organization that is committed to empowering individuals, families, and communities by providing work, recovery and support services to those who want to achieve self-sufficiency.
Cygnet Gala 2016 “Soiree by the Bay was held on Apr. 17 at Coasterra Restaurant. Performers from Cygnet provided entertainment. All proceeds benefit Cygnet Theatre’s work presenting theatre and educational programs in the community.
On Apr. 12, Vermont ice cream company held its annual Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop Seaport Village. Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County was the non-profit partner this year, raising awareness and increasing support for the cause of mentoring local children.
