The Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s annual Heart & Soul Gala was held on April 1 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla Aventine. The raise the paddle “Fund-A-Mitzvah” included a $200,000 donation match by Honorary Chairs Ernest & Evelyn Rady. A total of $1.1 million was raised to benefit JFS’s ongoing programs to empower individuals and families, support aging with dignity, and foster community connection and engagement across San Diego. Dinner underwriters included Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Marie G. Raftery and Dr. Robert A. Rubenstein and U.S. Bank.

Center for Community Solutions held its 18th Annual Tea and Tonic on April 14 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. The $250,000 raised will support programs and services for the intervention, healing, advocacy, and prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Terry Crews, former NFL player, action-movie hero, and sitcom star, Old Spice pitchman was the celebrity guest speaker. WomenWealthyWise was the Premier Sponsor of the event. Other sponsors included The Patricia & Christopher Weil Family Foundation, Wells Fargo and The Pride Law Firm.

Bank of America will be honored with the PATH Award at The San Diego Center for Children’s 130th Anniversary Celebration, “Protecting Hope, Creating Dreams, being held on May 4 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. BofA’s support for the SDCFC was strengthened with a Neighborhood Builders 2-year grant in 2014. The Center is San Diego’s oldest children’s nonprofit organization, offering comprehensive accredited therapeutic and educational programs for children and teens with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.

The Notables of San Diego Symphony held its annual Wine & Wears event on Mar. 30 at the Westgate Hotel. The $51,000 raised exceeded the budget for the event providing funds to benefit the artistic, music education, and community engagement programs. In addition to Westgate Hotel, sponsors included Baja Wine Food, Margaret’s the Couture Cleaner, The San Diego Foundation, San Diego Magazine and Mission Federal Credit Union.

Feeding San Diego held its Pairings with a Purpose on April 15 at the Bobby Riggs Tennis Club & Museum in Encinitas. An afternoon of culinary competition with San Diego and Guadalupe Valley’s chefs, breweries and wineries, united against hunger in San Diego. The $37,500 raised will provide 150,000 meals for San Diego residents who are struggling with hunger.

Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is holding its 2017 Annual Gala Cheers to 40 years – A Ruby Celebration, on April 29 at the Food Bank Warehouse. The Ruby Presenting Sponsor is R & R Richard & Richard Construction Company. The event features food from chefs from the region, including Waters Catering, Ranch La Puerta, The Patio Group and Solare Restaurant.

Oceanside resident Stacey Swall was selected to win the Australian vacation or cash option of $15,000 in the annual fundraising raffle benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities San Diego. Karen Hinman of La Mesa won this week’s $10,000 prize in the “add-on-ticket” drawing for ticket purchasers. Proceeds from Dream House Raffle ticket sales help San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House provide a range of services – including lodging, meals and emotional support – to families who have critically-ill or injured children being treated at San Diego-area hospitals.

The Bishop’s School Night in Havana

The Bishop’s School Night in Havana auction & Comedy Night was held on April 8. Louis Anderson, 2016 Emmy Award Winner, and Chris Garcia were the featured entertainers. Jennifer Greenfield, Sherry Manoogian and Haeyoung Tang were the Co-chairs for the event which raised $1 million to benefit The Bishop’s School Financial Aid and Faculty Professional Growth Programs.
