My neck, back, and knees ache a lot of the time, thanks to the fact that I sit most of the day (and to my decade-long high heel addiction). So recent articles touting the benefits of bone broth, including the repair of muscle injuries, piqued my interest. (It’s also said to combat cellulite and ward off the common cold—bonus!) It’s easy to make at home, but if you’re pressed for time, Carlsbad-based Real Bone Broth sells their frozen broth at Whole Foods and directly through their website. Once thawed, the consistency is gelatinous (and a little gross, to be honest), but turns to liquid after a minute on the stove. I’m a vegetarian turned "plant-preferred" eater, but the taste of the organic, grass-fed beef broth was not only tolerable—it was good! I replaced my morning coffee with the savory broth, and after two weeks my skin looked a bit more luminous and my joints felt as though I’d popped an ibuprofen. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this morning ritual—I prefer juices and smoothies in the a.m.—but I’ll definitely be trading my typical veggie stock for this vitamin-packed superfood in soup recipes this winter.
