International Smoke, the barbecue chain owned by Ayesha Curry and celebrity chef Michael Mina, officially opens its San Diego location this Friday at One Paseo.
Yerba Mate Bar & Empanadas is a new Argentine café on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. From the family that brought us Parana Empanadas in Liberty Public Market, Yerba Mate Bar & Empanadas serves up a variety of espresso-bar-style drinks featuring the South American specialty, and the café has a cool patio area in the back.
My Yard Live is now open in San Marcos. It’s a huge (17,500 square feet!) indoor and outdoor entertainment space for people of all ages. It combines elements of a community center, a park, an arcade, and an upscale brewery, and there’s a dedicated patio for kids. Adults can grab a drink at the full bar and play stand-up shuffleboard or bocce ball.
If you haven’t heard, the landmark restaurant Old Trieste has shut its doors after more than 50 years of serving fancy Italian fare in Bay Park. The longtime owners, the Tomicich family, were ready to retire. The restaurant was famous for its fried zucchini and its former strictly enforced formal dress code. The family sold the space to the Verant Group, a local bar and restaurant company that owns Barleymash and True North Tavern.
Last but not least, for those in East County, there’s a new farmers’ market in town. You can get fresh produce every Wednesday at Grossmont Center from 2 to 6 p.m.
