A local institution is marking its 30th anniversary with a big blowout. The Fish Market on Harbor Drive is hosting an event on March 12 that will feature lots of fresh seafood, drinks, performances from the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, and live demonstrations from “Fishmonger Darren,” who has been with The Fish Market since it opened 30 years ago.

Oleri Cultura, a new vegan Mexican eatery launched by the founder of Chicano Soul Food, opened at the food court in Grossmont Center in La Mesa.

There’s a fundraiser on February 17 in Escondido for Kaitlyn Pilsbury, the owner of Rosie’s Café, who was hurt in a motorcycle accident in December and is still recovering. The fundraiser is being thrown by Robert Irvine, the host of Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible, which featured Rosie’s Café on the show last year.

Barrio Logan is getting its own distillery. Liberty Call Distilling announced it’s going to open its second distillery, along with a full bar and restaurant, in the Mercado del Barrio on April 2. Leading the restaurant is Miguel Valdez, who grew up in Barrio Logan and was the executive chef at The Red Door in Mission Hills. It will serve lunch, dinner and brunch, and Valdez will be using the distillery’s spirits to craft the sauces that will be featured on the menu.
