Beer of the Week: Callahan’s Blueberry Wheat

Some of my fondest early beer-drinking memories are of this light, fruit-forward beer which, at the time, was a stark contrast to the hoppy, high-alcohol IPAs and barleywines I was subsisting on. A nose packed with the scent of fresh blueberry muffins draws you in to this light-bodied easy-on-the-taste-buds brew from Callahan's, one of San Diego's most enduring brewpubs. Because it's not too aggressive, this gentle fruit beer is a great gateway to the world of craft beer.

Beer Type: Fruit Beer (4% ABV)

Available at: On tap at Callahan’s Pub in Mira Mesa or San Diego Brewing Company in Mission Valley.

Pair it with: The savory pub grub menu at Callahan’s doesn’t provide a plethora of great matches for this beer with the exception of the simple granola, yogurt and fruit combo offered up on their weekend breakfast menu.
