Original 40 Brewing Company

The owners of U-31 gave us another stop on our North Park brewery hop when they opened this beautifully decorated space in June. Settle into the comfy seating with one of the 14 house beers on tap and some atypical pub eats—baby back adobo ribs, gougères, and Castelvetrano olives. Cheers! original40beer

Verbatim Books

Attention, bibliophiles: This rare and used book store tripled its square footage this spring, erecting even more shelves of hardcovers and paperbacks to browse. (Note the artistic display of books stacked to spell their name.) They also regularly host readings and open mic nights. verbatim.books

S’mores waffles, brioche donuts, and chicken confit and grits are some of the dishes that’ll get you out of bed to this new morning spot. It’s a spin-off of the ever-expanding Breakfast Republic chain. npbreakfastco

Paras News Stand

This store has been a fixture on 30th Street for decades, as the place in San Diego to read all about it—they carry over 4,000 titles. If you want fashion magazines in multiple languages or hard-to-find glossies, they’ve got ’em. Print isn’t dead!

North Park Mini Park

Construction will soon begin transforming the empty lot behind the Observatory into a space with pergolas, public seating, and art displays. Expected to open in 2020.
