Sparkling Gem

Singer-songwriter Jewel performed a private concert at a sold-out gala benefiting Promises2Kids (formerly the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation) at the La Jolla estate of honor­ary chair Joan Waitt. Maureen Sul­li­van and Romy Selati Loseke were co­chairs; Susan Golding, former mayor of San Diego, is CEO of Promises­2Kids.

North Shore

The Oceanside Museum of Art hosted “The Palm Club,” a roving black-tie gala that began with a champagne reception on the OMA Biogen Idec Terrace and continued at the Civic Center Plaza for dinner and dancing to sounds of The Mar Dels. Gail and John DeSalvo were presented with the Medal of Distinction for their support of the museum.


The Del Mar Racetrack welcomed the largest crowd in opening-day history (44,907), besting last year’s count by nearly 1,500.

Game Day

Polo players and enthusiasts descended on Rancho Santa Fe for San Diego Polo Club’s Surf Club Finals and 7th Chukker Party, presented by San Diego Magazine. The afternoon included the crowd-pleasing divot stomp and the national anthem sung by Tom Blair. The winning team, TriTech/Ohana, included members Kelly Maloney, T.J. Elordi, Gaston VonWernich and Danny Juarez. Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet, represented by Richard Farler, was an event partner.
