Shop Like a Tastemaker with Alexandra Hall

The Maven boutique owner shares her favorite things

Age: 29

Neighborhood: El Cerrito
Current job: Owner of Maven boutique.

Background: Hall opened the Normal Heights shop in May 2015, with clothing, accessories, and fragrances from independent brands.

Fashion philosophy: “Simplicity. Quality. Comfort.”

Personal style: “I gravitate toward staples like jeans and tees that are quality-made or vintage. At home, my son inspires me to be more quirky and colorful. But I still stay true to a less-is-more motto.”

Her Picks:

Nu Swim, made in the Bay Area, designs the best suits I’ve ever owned. The colors are rich and unique, plus the fit is so modern that people wear the one-pieces as bodysuits.”

Straight top, $76, and low bikini bottom in violet, $72, mavensd.com

“I’m super picky about jewelry and wear very little of it. I love Wolf Circus’s minimal approach to timeless accessories such as this femme pendant in gold.”

$140

“I’ve been making the switch to clean beauty and skin care. I really appreciate that Kosas lipstick is free of parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. And I love a dusty pink lip.”

$28

“I love the geometric shape and how this handbag elevates a casual outfit so effortlessly. I scored one on eBay that is vintage, but you can buy Cult Gaia’s new version, called ‘Gaia’s Ark’ in natural, online.”

$128

“We just got these in the store and I had to take one home. The bright splash of color on the black paper is so striking! I fell in love with my fiancé in the desert and we visit often. Every time I look at this print, I can’t help but smile and think of springtime in my favorite place with him."

“California Desert Wildflowers” print by Plant Planet, $100, mavensd.com

“;I’m redoing my 5-year-old’s room soon, and this fun little peace sign wall hook is on my list to get. Everything that designer Eric Trine does makes me happy.”

$28

“I really am in love with the wide leg trend, especially these sailor pants in tobacco. I hope it stays! Designer Jesse Kamm is one of my style muses—she’s like if Annie Hall were a surfer.”

$395

“I can’t resist anything with tuberose, like this Hysteria fragrance from Mondo Mondo.”

$135

“I love how soft the leather is on these suede Sophie slides by Maryam Nassir Zadeh, and the heel is the perfect height. I don’t wear a lot of color, so navy is a go-to ‘neutral’ for me.”

$306, fwrd.com
