Very Important Taco: The Borrego at City Tacos

Pulled lamb, fried leeks, and so much more

By Archana Ram

The new wave of gourmet tacos takes center stage at this North Park taqueria, where the lineup is simple—10 tacos, no quesadillas or nachos—but the ingredients are anything but. Menu standards include strawberry habanero, arugula, and even golden raisins.

There’s a taco for every protein taste, including seafood, chicken, and a vegetarian option made with a melted Oaxaca cheese, but the Borrego is a clear winner. Pulled lamb is topped with wild mushrooms, Cotija cheese, and fried leeks, along with a squeeze of chipotle cream sauce, all stuffed in a house-made corn tortilla (or flour, if you prefer).

On Tuesdays, they offer 50 cents off all tacos (normally $3.50 each) at the taqueria and at the City Tacos truck parked nearby at Hess Brewing. ¡Salud!
