Southern Hospitality: Tijuana Hospitals

The most popular places for common surgeries south of the border.

Hospitales Angeles

Upon opening its doors in 2006, the pristine 25,000-square-foot Hospitales Angeles is one of more than two dozen around Mexico operated under the Grupo Angeles name. Best known for weight loss surgery, it became the city’s premier private health care facility for patients who hail from both sides of the border, duly noted via its bilingual staff and signage.

With 25 years in the business, a babyish mug that’s commonly found on billboards around town, and a name that literally translates to “good face,” Dr. Carlos Buenrostro may as well be Tijuana’s fairy godfather of plastic surgeons. He’s lent his hand to local housewives and Hollywood.
GO THERE: Boulevard Sánchez Taboada 9563, Zona Río

A 20,000-square-foot facility less than a mile from the San Ysidro border crossing, Clinica de los Ojos—which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2016—remains at the forefront of eye care along the border. It recently added no-touch corrective vision surgery via trans-PRK treatment to its list of services.
