AleSmith Brewing

This year marks the fifth anniversary of .394, AleSmith’s beer honoring Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and his career-high batting average. To celebrate this milestone, the brewery is hosting a party at its tasting room on May 9—the slugger’s birthday—open to all. New this season: 19-ounce cans of .394, a golden pale ale selected by Gwynn with mild bitterness and sweet, malty notes. In May, AleSmith is adding another Gwynn-inspired ale to the lineup: the Hazy .394, an unfiltered, more robust version bursting with tropical and citrusy hop aromas.

Baja Brewing

The brewery, based in Los Cabos, Baja, is currently exporting its third style of beer, Escorpion Negro, across the border. This Schwarzbier-style black ale, made from a special carafe-roasted malt, is available at spots like Whole Foods, PB Cantina, Mitch’s Seafood, and Offshore Tavern and Grill. High Style Brewing Co.

Creators of the first nonalcoholic, THC-infused beverage in California —the Coastal Haze IPA —this Mira Mesa-based brewery is adding two more flavors this spring: A blood orange IPA and grapefruit IPA will be available at dispensaries statewide, including local retailers Torrey Holistics, Mankind Dispensary, March and Ash, and Apothekare. “There are so many cannabis consumers that may be moving away from alcohol or looking for lighter, healthier alternatives,” says spokesman Charlie Reed. “It offers such an awesome option in a socially acceptable and common way.”
