Wipe the sleep from your eyes, Hillcrest. It seems you’ve woken up after a long restaurant slumber. The newest arrival is Maestoso, a “chef-to-table” Italian restaurant headed by Roman chef and recent transplant Marco Maestoso. He’s got cred, graduating from Rome’s famed Gambero Rosso culinary school, cooking for the Italian president, selling out pop-up dinners in his NYC apartment, and, finally, landing at Hillcrest’s Hub shopping center.

Maestoso has no servers; an army of chefs do all the work. Among the Roman cuisine are pinsas, a pizza ancestor made with rice and wheat flour for lighter, crunchier crust; build-your-own pastas; and a selection of plates like smoky beef tartare and “majestic tunaballs” with sun-dried tomatoes. They’ll also have nightly creations served on table-side carts. Awaken, and mangia.
