This month, there’ll be sponge cake and daiquiris at La Jolla Playhouse when the new Jimmy Buffett musical, Escape to Margaritaville, makes its world premiere. The score is a mix of classic Buffett tunes, plus some original music written just for the show. Single-ticket sales shattered Playhouse box office records, with many performances already sold out.
Following its San Diego run, Margaritaville will head to New Orleans, Houston, and Chicago, before opening on Broadway in spring 2018. Maybe Buffett’s search for that long-lost shaker of salt will bring home a Tony or two?
