San Diego Bikes is a free, user-friendly app that acts as a guide to beginner’s biking in the county. Descriptions, photos, and directions help you navigate commuter-friendly streets and nearby bike paths.

Bike Month is upon us, and every year it continues to pick up speed. During Bike Month 2014, more than 8,700 San Diegans participated in Bike to Work Day. The cyclists who logged their miles into TripTracker counted more than 272,000 miles total. That’s 11,8000 gallons of gas saved and 8.3 million calories burned.

This year, commuters will clip in on Friday May 15. SANDAG, the host organization, will be manning about 100 pit stops around the county.

The Bike Coalition organizes several events throughout the month, including Bike Fiesta on May 2, a ride from Balboa Park to the Central Library. On May 17, the 10th Annual Pedal to the Park deposits riders at a Padres game.
