Though Venga Venga Cantina & Tequila Bar, the only San Diego outpost of celebrity chef Richard Sandoval’s restaurant empire, has all the elements of a sophisticated lounge, including infused tequilas and a DJ spinning Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, its menu is rooted in Mexican tradition. And with the recently launched Destination menu series, the Venga team can truly shine. Sandoval and his chefs spent two weeks researching Guadalajara’s culinary heritage, and the result is an inventive menu (served through September 30) pegged to the region, including shrimp skewers and a Mexican spin on caprese salad, among other items.
