Shifting Gears in East Village

LMC’s Shift is taking East Village living to the next level

East Village is evolving. The neighborhood adjacent to the Gaslamp Quarter, once filled with warehouses and empty lots, has seen an infusion of arts, culture, and innovation, as well as an influx of hip restaurants, craft breweries, cocktail spots, bustling boutiques, and high-end high-rises. Petco Park, the new Central Library, and the event spaces that pepper the area also help attract a vibrant and diverse array of visitors.

Next to make its mark on San Diego’s largest downtown neighborhood is Shift. Developer LMC’s 21-story standout, going up at 15th Street and Island Avenue, is the latest addition to the burgeoning scene. Shift’s 368 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments evoke the neighborhood’s contemporary, cool vibe while also incorporating its high-tech elements. Think luxe quartz countertops, expansive closets, and designer bath features, plus it’s the only building downtown that offers a one-of-a-kind Lutron Dream Suite with smart-home, app-controlled lighting, shades, speakers, and nest thermostat in every home. Shift’s supersized penthouses are the height of luxury with panoramic views of downtown, floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious patios, and walk-in closets.

The building itself, which is eco-friendly LEED-certified, is also nothing short of impressive. Besides meshing seamlessly with the area, it’s packed from sidewalk to roof with luxuries everyone in the Shift community and their guests can enjoy. Take a stroll through the sculpture-lined courtyard or bring your pup to attached the dog park. And Shift is the only place around with a full amenities package at the top of the building, so invite your crew to lounge by the rooftop pool—you can’t beat the views. Hit the sky-deck for a cookout or just chill out in the seventh-floor lounge. Fitness buffs can work up a sweat on top-of-the-line gym equipment, climb the rock wall, or stretch out in the yoga studio. The ground floor offers boxing or martial arts workouts at The Boxing Club, and if you need a pick-me-up afterward, a nitro cold brew coffee from Red Hat Coffee will do the trick. You can also get down to business at Shift. Its exclusive STLT co-working space with private offices, Wi-Fi, a conference room, and coffee bar is perfect for collaborating.

Shift’s location is ideal. Walk or bike to neighborhood hot spots including Mission Brewery inside the historic Wonder Bread building, and hip hangouts like Monkey Paw and Half Door Brewing Co., which is housed in a cozy old home near the ballpark. Or stop at You & Yours Distilling Co. for a creative cocktail made with their award-winning vodka or gin. Hungry? The Mission’s delicious breakfasts, brunches, and lunches are just three blocks away. Basic Pizza, located in a former warehouse on 10th and J streets, is anything but, and Salvucci’s across the street offers a different take on pizza and other authentic Italian specialties. Shift’s commuter-friendly location is also close to K-8 charter school Urban Discovery Academy and eclectic events space the Quartyard.

And the best part is you could be part of all this, too. Shift is leasing phase 1 of these luxury digs now. So, what are you waiting for?
