San Diego beat out both Los Angeles and San Francisco to be the first U.S. city to exhibit Our Silences, a series of 10 bronze sculptures by the Mexican artist Rivelino. Previously, the sculptures toured Mexico City, London, Rome, Moscow, and more. Now on display at Ruocco Park on the Embarcadero, each figure stands 11.5 feet tall, with a mouth bound by a plate, representing the artist’s preoccupation with the freedom of expression. Failure to speak out starts with lying to ourselves in the mirror, the artist explained in Spanish at the recent unveiling. “From there, that silence moves from one city to another, one country to another, and one continent to another. It’s important to share what we think and feel.” Through March 15, Ruocco Park, 585 Harbor Lane, downtown
