Play at Our Port

Set sail across the bay, shop in Seaport Village, or dine and gallery-hop at The Headquarters. San Diego’s Port is a summertime playground with so much to see and do!

Published:

The Headquarters

The historic San Diego Police Department headquarters has been transformed into a sophisticated, open-air shopping, dining, and social center with fun for all ages. Kitson is known for its pop-culture kitschy gifts and stylish threads. Simply Local showcases the creativity of 57 local artisans and merchants. Ocean Art Gallery of Aaron Chang displays the stunning work of the iconic surf photographer. Every Friday is Summer Art & Wine night at the gallery, while the first Thursday of each month is Meet the Artist Night, when guests hear the stories behind Chang’s work, as told by the artist himself. aaronchang.com

Sweets lovers should head to Dallmann Confections for divine truffles and treats, along with hands-on chocolate-making classes and themed pairing events featuring dessert wine, coffee, exotic tea, and beer with chocolate. $35–$60, Fridays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. dallmannconfections.com

When it’s time to eat, head to Nancy Silverton’s acclaimed Pizzeria Mozza for beautiful bruschettas, pizzas, and charcuterie, or duck into Puesto for street tacos, exceptional moles, and margaritas, to be enjoyed in the artistic setting designed by the ever-talented Thomas Schoos. theheadquarters.com

Seaport Village

Stroll through the charming waterfront scene, a colorful hub for souvenirs, shopping and savory eats. Ride the historic carousel and enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon of live music by the bay. Celebrate the Bard over cappuccinos with the San Diego Shakespeare Society’s open readings at the Upstart Crow Bookstore & Coffeehouse (835C West Harbor Drive) on the first Tuesday of every month, 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. sandiegoshakespearesociety.org

On the Waterfront

Explore the Maritime Museum of San Diego and its incredible fleet of historic ships. Star of India, built in 1863, shines as the world’s oldest active sailing ship. Families can enjoy sleepovers aboard this seafaring gem that sailed around the world 21 times and still sets sail once a year. Or find your sea legs with a sail around the bay on the museum’s fair schooner Californian. sdmaritime.org

The best way to breathe in the beauty of San Diego’s skyline is from a sleek Hornblower yacht as it circumnavigates the bay. Dine on lobster and Champagne and dance under the stars with the glittering city lights as a backdrop. Or drift off on a full-moon cruise for a romantic evening on the water. hornblower.com
