Three tempting desserts worthy of pausing your healthy eating resolution, at least temporarily.
Cinnamon roll from BO-Beau and 100 Wines
1. It was chef Katherine Humphus’ dad’s obsession with cinnamon rolls that inspired her to perfect a recipe and add them to the menu at BO-beau and 100 Wines. Four sugar-saturated rolls are squeezed into a mini skillet and sprinkled with buttery walnut pieces. They’re toasty on the outside and molten in the middle. You can top them with cinnamon apples or Nutella and have your order packed up to go if you didn’t save room for dessert. 1027 University Avenue, Hillcrest, and 4996 West Point Loma Boulevard, Ocean Beach
2. Azúcar’s goat cheese cherry cheesecake is definitely worth the indulgence. Combining chêvre with cream cheese gives the cake a slight tang and some intriguing complexity, while the tart cherry compôte on top and spicy ginger crust complete the picture. Owner Vivian Hernandez-Jackson says it’s for anyone who prefers a cheese course to a sweet dessert. While you’re there, you might as well grab a double cherry hand pie and some soft and chewy dark chocolate sea salt caramels, too. 4820 Newport Avenue, Ocean Beach
3. There’s a waffle at play in D Bar’s Faux Foster Banana Imposter, so technically, you could call it a brunch dish. Then again, the waffles are studded with rock sugar, sandwiched together with gobs of chocolate cremeaux, and topped with caramelized banana slices, malt Anglaise, and a scoop of salted caramel ice cream, so maybe not. For maximum effect, pair it with a creamy tiramisu martini or sip some sweet and crisp Inniskillin ice wine between bites. 3930 Fifth Avenue, Hillcrest
