Winterproof Skin

Wash with lukewarm water. It;s tempting to take a hot bubble bath or shower during cold winter months, but hot water strips the body of its natural oils. Pat dry with a towel instead of rubbing to allow water to absorb into the skin for added hydration.

Apply more moisturizer. Use a moisturizer with a heavier emollient such as cocoa butter, shea butter or mineral oil. For best results, apply moisturizer to damp skin immediately after showering.

Exfoliate. You need to remove dead skin cells first to get maximum effects from your moisturizer. Flaky buildup from dry skin will make skin appear dull and blotchy. Use a gentle, less abrasive product once or twice a week.

Change face wash and toner. Skin needs more nourishment in the winter, so put away products with alcohol or antibacterial soap, since they strip moisture from the skin. Change from gel/foam cleansers to milk/cream cleansers, and be sure your toner is alcohol-free.

Keep using sunscreen. UVA rays are just as strong during the winter months, so always use sunscreen especially if you ski or snowboard. And don't forget to apply it to the neck and backs of hands.
