UCSD graduate student and aspiring photographer Jake Lessie captured this view of himself against the Milky Way backdrop at Torrey Pines State Beach using his Sony a6000, a Rokinon 12mm F2 lens, and a mix of over- and under-exposure. How did he manage such plum positioning? “My mom was there to help set up and take the photo,” he says.
