Designed in SD: Memory of a Circle Chairs
The triply talented Summer Meza of Modern Haus is a midcentury modern antique dealer, interior designer, and furniture designer, with a hip, minimalist aesthetic. Take, for instance, her Memory of a Circle chair. Its solid steel frame is handmade in California by a third-generation family shop. Then Meza cuts, stretches, laces, oils, and tans the thick latigo saddle leather in her La Mesa studio, a process that takes two days per chair. The leather patinas with time and should last for decades. “It’s more satisfying to live with things that feel permanent and substantial,” Meza says. “And there’s no excuse for the amount of stuff we throw away!”
This month she unveiled a new rocking version. Rock on!
