Shaping School Now in Session
Shapers have branched out into other areas. So what about non-shapers trying their hand at making surfboards? Traditionally a solitary pursuit, a local business is
revitalizing the dying art by giving novices (and pros) the direction and tools to
create their own surfboards in a laid-back shop.
Anyone who wants to be a more complete surfer should try shaping, according to Chris Clark, 27, the CEO and founder of Shaper Studios. “Riding a surfboard is only half of surfing,” said Clark, who also recently wrapped up his MBA at San Diego State. “Shaping brings out the full experience and really gives surfers a greater appreciation of the sport.”
Shaper Studios offers one-on-one shaping lessons in an individual or group setting. After a crash course in the basics, budding shapers can customize their own surfboard from start to finish. And those who are hooked on shaping can sign up for a monthly membership. shaperstudios.com
