After an impressive career in kitchens at French Laundry, Chez Panisse and Providence, chef Michael Liotta has joined restaurant manager and sommelier Summer Haines at the Quarter Kitchen restaurant at the Andaz hotel in the Gaslamp. [ Voyou ]
A teensy-tiny new wine bar on Hillcrest’s hot corner of Pennsylvania and Fifth Avenue is already attracting local oenophiles with $5 wines at Happy Hour and $3 mimosas on Sundays. 619-297-9720.

[ Street Side Thai Kitchen ]

[ Ave 5 ]
Owners of the three-year-old Bankers Hill French restaurant have renamed Avenue 5, launched a more affordable menu with most selections less than $20 and hired star mixologist Mike Yen from Nine-Ten, who is busy mixing wild cocktails like the Cotton Candy Cuban, made with dark rum, mint, sparkling wine, lime juice, raw sugar and “fairy floss.” 2760 Fifth Avenue, 619-542-0394, ­avenue5restaurant.com.

[ Wet Willies ]
Just when we thought the Gaslamp was getting serious about food again, Hooters wannabe Wet Willie’s opens on Market, with tequila-doused chicken strips and a wall of alcoholic slushee machines filled with “mojito mojo” and absinthe-flavored blended drinks. 555 Market Street, ­wetwillies.com.

[ Urbn North Park ]
Fans of the East Village’s original pizza-and-beer loft Basic can now rejoice in a second helping of the coal-fired crustiness (that’s New Haven style, folks) in North Park. 3085 University Avenue, ­urbnnorthpark.com.

[ Phil’s BBQ ]
Barbecue fanatics and Food Network stars have a new “local legend” to visit now, as Phil’s BBQ welcomes a second location to the finger-lickin’ family. Here’s hoping for shorter wait times at the Point Loma site. 579 Grand Avenue, San Marcos, philsbbq.net.

[ Miguel’s Cocina ]

[ The Rose Wine Pub ]
South Park’s quest toward becoming a little utopia is near complete with the addition of a wine bar to its roster of neighborhood watering holes.
