After an impressive career in kitchens at French Laundry, Chez Panisse and Providence, chef Michael Liotta has joined restaurant manager and sommelier Summer Haines at the Quarter Kitchen restaurant at the Andaz hotel in the Gaslamp. Owners of the three-year-old Bankers Hill French restaurant have renamed Avenue 5, launched a more affordable menu with most selections less than $20 and hired star mixologist Mike Yen from Nine-Ten, who is busy mixing wild cocktails like the Cotton Candy Cuban, made with dark rum, mint, sparkling wine, lime juice, raw sugar and “fairy floss.” 2760 Fifth Avenue, 619-542-0394, avenue5restaurant.com.
