Bajamar

Bajamar Oceanfront Hotel & Golf Resort

This master-planned golf and resort community, set on the ocean bluffs 40 kilometers north of Ensenada, is a dreamy piece of paradise whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend getaway, wedding location, or picturesque place to retire. In addition to private homes, the resort has Hacienda Bajamar Hotel, with 81 colonial-style rooms, a grand courtyard filled with fountains, flowers, and birdsong, and an old-world restaurant that overlooks a lake and freshly planted vineyards. It’s also a golfer’s haven with 27 holes and spectacular ocean-view golf. Called the “Pebble Beach of Mexico,” the seaside course’s green fairways traverse jagged cliffs along the Pacific. The property’s new Infinity Center sits above the eighth hole and takes its name from the sweeping, endless views. It includes a massive stage with grassy amphitheater seating for concerts, events, or weddings, and a glass-encased spacious room below. golfbajamar.com

San Quintín

Empty beaches, tidal plains, oyster beds, abalone farms, surf breaks, sea lion colonies, and sand dunes—this laid-back coastal town, 190 kilometers south of Ensenada, beckons with beautiful bays for world-class sportfishing and kayaking with whales. At low tide, it’s a clammer’s paradise, while the marshlands make for a birder’s haven. Scuba divers can discover teeming sea life and underwater pinnacles at Johnston’s Seamount. Coastal dunes provide endless adventures for off-road vehicle exploration. Panoramic view seekers can head up to the National Observatory (60 miles northeast) in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park and drink in the views of both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortéz from this stunning high perch. Since San Quintín is the last stop for many miles when heading south along the Baja Peninsula Highway, it’s a great place to refuel, load up on supplies, and rest for the night.
