New restaurant openings and coming-soons



L.A.’s hot whiskey bar Seven Grand opens in North Park this month with an international list of whiskeys, from Japan to Australia to good ol’ Tennessee.

D Bar’s doing happy hour right, with six different small plates and $6 St. Germain cocktails in Hillcrest.


The District brings a $10-and-under sandwich menu to the East Village, along with soups made fresh daily and free WiFi. Lunch!


Billing itself as the world’s first “out and proud” LGBT brewery, Hillcrest Brewing Company offers 24 beers on tap, four of which are its own creation. Tasty stone oven pizzas, too.


Babycakes recently opened a second location at Morley Field’s Balboa Tennis Club, with its signature menu of cupcakes and cocktails.

The Commons will replace Lincoln Room in the Gaslamp later this summer, with new cocktails and bar food near Horton Plaza.


The old Daisy’s Bistro at the Bristol Hotel downtown has been renamed First Street Bar & Grill and now serves chef Lisa Richards’ California cuisine menu.


Block No. 16 Union & Spirits is now open near Petco Park. It’s yet another project from Ty Hauter (Bub’s Dive, Lucky’s Lunch Counter) and it is massive, with 10,000 square feet of space and a 25’ x 35’ LED screen.


Tim Kolanko, longtime protégé of Jeff Jackson at the Lodge at Torrey Pines, is now the general manager at The Fishery in PB. Chef Paul Arias remains as chef.


True Food Kitchen is finally open at Fashion Valley. The idea? Healthy food by real chefs. Local toque Nathan Coulon is heading up the kitchen.
