Unusual San Diego Home Location
Location! Location! Location! Cliff hanging house amazes at UCSD
A brick path winds through a manicured lawn and leads to the front door, while a blanket drapes across a cozy couch inside. This shingled blue cottage would make an idyllic family home—except for the fact that it hangs off the edge of a seven-story engineering building at UCSD. The project, dubbed “Fallen Star,” was inspired by artist Do Ho Suh’s feelings of displacement when he moved from South Korea to the United States. Seven years in the making, the life-sized work of art weighs nearly 70,000 pounds and cost about $1.4 million. It recently opened to the public. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, anyone can visit the house at its fictitious address, 72 Blue Heron Way—just don’t count on using Google Maps to get there.
