Personal wardrobe stylist and blogger Conni Jespersen and her husband, Clint, traded in their usual dinner and a movie for a view of the La Jolla coastline from Donovan’s Steak and Chop House. New parents of a daughter, Kate, the couple manages to get out once every few weeks, alternating new hotspots with tried-and-true favorites. “We’re lucky to have family around, so we have lots of support for date nights,” Conni says.

Donovan’s is known for its savory steaks and succulent seafood, so of course Conni and Clint had to give them a try.

What did you order?

“I started with the house chopped salad (I always love starting with a yummy salad!) and Clint, the New England-style seafood chowder. For our main course, we ordered the T-bone steak and creamed spinach, along with the New York strip,” Conni says. “We also love their wine selection, so we ordered a bottle of Pinot to go with our meal.”

“I definitely saved room for dessert. Donovan’s has the yummiest creme brulee!”

What are you keeping in mind for next time?

“I would definitely recommend any of their steaks.”

What was your date night budget?

“We like to keep it around $100 per person, but date night is a fun time to get out and enjoy ourselves, so we sometimes allow room for a splurge.”

What was your favorite part of the Date Night at Donovan’s experience?

“Donovan’s had amazing service. The staff are all extremely warm and friendly, opting menu suggestions if necessary and always checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. And the views of the ocean can’t be beat.”
