Shop Like a Tastemaker with Sarah Grossman

The creative force behind the San Diego Museum of Art's annual Art Alive event shares her favorite things

Published:

Age: 34

Neighborhood: Fletcher Hills

Current Job: Associate Director of Special Events and Corporate Relations at the San Diego Museum of Art

Background: An artist herself since a young age, Grossman painted a career in event coordination out of her childhood hobby. Among other large-scale soirées for SDMA, she organizes the museum’s annual floral exhibit Art Alive, happening April 26–29. Find inspiration in her day-to-day at polychrome.blog.

Fashion Philosophy: “You only live once. Wear what you love!”

Personal Style: “Bold and eclectic with sleek, high-fashion design details. I also like statement pieces for everyday, not just special occasions, and to incorporate unique vintage finds.”

Her Picks:

“I love to add enamel pins to my coats and jackets. I shop for them mostly at Pigment in North Park. Their selections, like this enamel pin in pink rose, are festive and tongue-in-cheek.”

Illamasqua matte lipstick is not drying or cakey and stays on for hours, making it perfect for events. Plus, the rich colors are to die for.”

$23

“I like a bold look in the gym just as much as I do on the street. I recently found Target’s new athletic line JoyLab. It has great designs without breaking-the-bank prices, like these high-rise shine leggings.”

$35

“I collect vintage and unique barware and glassware. A mule is one of my go-to at-home concoctions, so I’m currently in love with my iridescent Moscow mule mug by Blush.”

$25

“I change up my sunglasses daily and Quay Australia has become my brand du jour. Their Kitti frame with an updated cat eye and mirrored lens is one of my favorites.”

$50

Alexander Wang is my No. 1 designer. Bold bodysuits with unique high-waist pants have become my uniform, and he has come up with an impressive range of bodysuits I find perfect for everyday life.”

$97

Miss Dior is one of my standby fragrances for evening events. It’s sweet yet spicy.”

$102

“I’m a huge fan of shopping off-season, as I get some of the best deals that way. I’m thinking about summer already and am completely obsessed with Mara Hoffman swimwear right now. I love the bold, colorful patterns and the sexy yet flattering cuts.”

$260

Nars blush in Orgasm—it’s been a fan favorite for a long time—is just the best blush color I’ve ever used.”

$30
