Banh Me Up
Time to give it up for the taco
Editor's note: Update! Taco Banh mysteriously closed after only a few days for a concept and menu re-tooling. Kobe beef and pork tacos remain on the menu, along with a larger selection of entrees, including breakfast items.
Time to give it up for the taco. Taco Banh is taking a refreshing approach to the flexible edible by fusing it with Asian flavors. The results are delicious. Burritos become banhritos with the addition of crunchy pickled daikon, carrot, and cilantro, and Kobe beef tacos are spiced up with a teriyaki cure. Veggies can opt for miso-marinated tofu. Things really get interesting at the banh bar, where you can load up on flavor boosters like wasabi cream, pickled ginger, and papaya tomatillo salsa. Some options are mild, while others will knock you back like a kung-fu kick. In those cases, a cool $3.50 bottle from Green Flash, Stone Brewing Co., or Firestone is the perfect counterpunch. 3850 Fifth Ave., Hillcrest.
