Tasting notes, fast facts, and expert reviews on every brewery in the San Diego region
By Bruce Glassman
When Saint Archer first opened its tasting room doors in May 2013, it had been one of San Diego’s most highly anticipated debuts. Savvy marketing, cool design, and a well-crafted “surfer-X Games” image made the brand appealing from the get-go (especially to the 20-something crowd).
As a brand-new brewery, Saint Archer hit the ground running—and in a big way. Their 17,000-square-foot brewery space and 30-barrel system make for a large initial footprint and offer plenty of room for a long bar and an expansive tasting area.
By 2015, Saint Archer had grown its brand enough that it became San Diego’s first major acquisition by big beer; the company was purchased by MillerCoors for $87 million. Despite their lack of independence, their lineup continues to be consistently clean, well-made beers that offer predictability instead of excitement.
