Tasting notes, fast facts, and expert reviews on every brewery in the San Diego region
By Bruce Glassman
This expansive new brewery and tasting facility, opened in spring 2013, provided a long-awaited opportunity for “mainlanders” to access Coronado beers directly from the source. Located right off Interstate 5 at Morena Boulevard, the space and equipment enabled Coronado Brewing Company to expand production considerably—propelling them into the realm of a medium-large craft brewery. In 2014, they were crowned Champion Mid-size brewery at the World Beer Cup.
Outfitted with a long wooden bar, long wooden “elbow” bar space, a few large tables, and plenty of seating, Coronado’s nicely designed tasting room is comfortable, relaxed, and friendly. There’s also plenty of space for an extensive merchandise selection and a nicely stocked retail beer cooler.
In addition to Coronado’s solid core beers, an impressive variety of seasonals and specialty beers are also regularly available here. Brewery director Shawn DeWitt and Head Brewer Ryan Brooks oversee a talented team that offers visitors a nice range of styles to choose from, with tasty selections for hop lovers as well as malt fans and wheat-beer enthusiasts.
