Tasting notes, fast facts, and expert reviews on every brewery in the San Diego region
By Bruce Glassman
The brewery/tasting room housed inside a typical light industrial office park has become the most common model for the majority of San Diego’s newest breweries—and Booze Brothers is no exception. Until you go inside….
Comfortable, light, and airy, this plain space has been transformed into a quirky but endearing tasting room. It’s got a rather unique vibe that’s immediately welcoming and friendly. Dogs lounge about while parents have fun with kids at the ping-pong table. A large outdoor area, which sports space for another bar, is simple but nicely done.
Brewer Donny Firth, who works with brother Dave, has come out of the gate with a large variety of styles, some simple, and others fairly ambitious. The lineup includes light, straightforward beers (blondes and lagers) alongside a double IPA, a braggot (honey wine style), and a rum-barrel-aged brown ale. While the more ambitious beers don’t all hit the target, new, young brewers should get high marks for trying to brew out of the box...
