Designer Pilar Macchione and the SD Fashion Scene This Weekend
One local designer stood out in our otherwise unimpressive scene
Saturday After a dinner at Morton's (in which I wore my favorite coral dress from Cozbi in Brooklyn, brown Dulce shoes, and a vintage handbag from the newly opened boutique Aloha Sunday in North Park), I went home, changed, and met up with Rob Correa, the PR guy in the “gayborhood” of Hillcrest. He was kind enough to escort me to a party thrown by Michael Lee of Bikini Week and A Style Concierge. I wore a red slinky dress by Soprano, a black leather jacket by BCBG, and nude, strappy kitten heels by Dutch designer Vandervorst. The party was a dud and I felt 200 years old…I was home and in bed by 11:30.
Sunday afternoon, I stopped by Boutique de Marcus to see the fashion/fundraiser for emerging designer Pilar Macchione. A recent USLA grad in theater with a costume design focus who is totally hell bent on raising enough money to present her collection at New York Fashion week. The clothing was inspired by 18th Century corsetry and was mostly black in silks, leather, wool, and crepe. She needs $15,000, and after meeting her and seeing her line, I believe she just may do it.
Do you think Pilar should take her line to New York for Fashion Week?
