New York Fashion Week
In two days I arrive in NY for Fashion Week. Yes, this SD girl from our fair San Diego Magazine, will sit along the runways at Lincoln Center with the likes of Andre Tally Leon, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, InStyle Magazine, and every other lucky designer, buyer, stylist, writer, celeb, blogger, columnist, and fashionista who were able to get their hot little hands on invites.
After days of dogging the PR people who represent the biggest names in the fashion world, I procured invites to the shows of Monique Lhuillier, Thuy, Tracy Reese, Gotex, Rebecca Taylor, William Tempest, LucaLuca, Tory Burch, SD locals Gordana Gehlhausen and Jesus Estrada, and Project Runway alum, Althea Harper. Admittedly, this is not a lifelong dream of mine….but it is a dream come true now.
I’m so psyched!
I’m most looking forward to seeing the Tracy Reese show. I’ve loved her clothes for so many years. As a woman of color it’s not often you see someone that looks like you and there aren’t that many Black women designers in the industry. Reese’s clothes are achievable and wearable, fun and flirty. I’m also really looking forward to Thuy, pronounced “twee”. Thuy’s Vietnamese and comes from a tailoring background. She makes the most beautifully crafted dresses imaginable in vibrant colors and innovative designs. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who the designers are, it’s the experience that’s the most thrilling for me.
So, stay tuned here for more after the first shows Sunday night. I’ll be blogging all week.
