New York Fashion Week: Luca Luca

Our style editor checks in from the Luca Luca show

My third day of shows started at 6pm with the mogul designer line Luca Luca. Originally from Milan and started in the 90’s, it has become a juggernaut in the luxury ready-to-wear world.  In 2008, the line brought on Parson’s grad, Raul Melgoza. Luca Luca designs everything from sportswear, to day wear, knits, coats, evening wear, shoes and accessories. The spring 2011 line is and updated 1940’s look, filled with corals, pinks, and navy. The dresses were gentle and subtle in details--stylish without being over-the-top—all very feminine.

One thing I must mention about fashion week--the retired NYC cops and fireman that run the security. Imagine the guys who talk like guys from the TV show the Sopranos. These are the guys dealing with the fashion girls and boys, as well as the Upper West Side ladies who lunch. No one messes with these guys. If they tell you to stand “ovah there”, you better freakin’ stand where they tell you. There’s a lot of pushing and shoving, but there’d be a whole lot more without these guys. I feel safe in their hands.
