New Shoes, New Sheets
Two cool new boutiques opening just in time for the holidays
Bixby and Ball, owned by friends, Betsy Bracken and Melissa Anderson has opened to rave reviews. Anderson’s background is in interior design and Bracken’s is in event planning. Once the decision was made to go into business and the cottage along the Cedros Design district (built in 1924) became available, it didn’t take long for the two to put their complimentary talents together and open this charming gift and bedding store. Bixby and Ball carries amazing the Kai home products, cozy Barefoot Dream robes, upscale Mateo bedding, and array of jewelry lines. The owners like to say the store offers “items that create a lifestyle."
"When we come home at the end the day, the sheets we sleep in and the sights and smells that surround us, are what makes our home a home,” Anderson says.
Down in the posh village of La Jolla, located across the street from the iconic coffeehouse, Pannikin, sisters Joan Lofgren and MT Zaninovich, both born and bred in San Diego, took a leap and opened a new shoe store called Tootsies. To open the store in this economy was somewhat of a risk, but given that the motto of the store is “affordable and adorable,” the risk is a calculated one. “The other shoe stores in La Jolla are all very high-end. Nothing in Tootsies is over $168.00, and the locals are so happy to have a place to come and find something trendy, like an over-the-knee boot, and not have to spend a fortune,” Zaninovich says.
Tootsies will be open to the public for a holiday “Chocolate and Champagne” event on December 2nd from 4-6pm.
Whether it’s a gift for a friend or a little something special to wear with that new dress, these two new cool boutiques offer San Diegan’s a place to give their wallets a break and their homes a breath of freshness.
