Local boutique owner launches a digital fashion 'zine

If you have yet to discover the Dianne O. boutique in East Village San Diego, then you’ve been missing out. But keep up because this lady isn’t standing still. In addition to owning the chic clothing boutique, designing her own cosmetic line, and styling for celebs in LA, Dianne O. has just launched her own digital online fashion magazine, called simply, “You.”
“I created something I’d like to see based on what I thought was missing in San Diego,” O says.
She describes the magazine as a place to feature the most fashionable and powerful women and men locally and from around the world. O says the magazine is an extension of what she’s already created with the boutique. The name Youcame from the inspiration she gets from her clients. As a stylist and boutique owner, it’s not about me, it’s about what the customer’s needs are and how to help them achieve their goals.
Although Dianne O. doesn’t focus on the subject of race, it’s important to note that she is one of the only African American boutique owners in San Diego. When I ask her what role this fact plays in her life, she told me definitively, “It makes me work harder. My family felt they didn’t have boundaries and I feel the same. They inspired me,” O says.
O describes the You woman as someone that doesn’t need brands or labels. They don’t want that kind of attention. It’s all about them and their individuality. You’s holiday issue will include pages on beauty (Lips with curb appeal), and of course fashion--White is the new black especially when it comes to boots, and plums and purples are all the rage this season.
“No matter how you cut it, fashion is a tough gig,” says O. Dianne O. is not standing still. As her clothing lines change every season, so does the re-creation of herself—like You, she’s a woman in forward motion.
