Clarins' Department Store Day Spa
The U.K. skincare line opens a day spa in Bloomingdale's at Fashion Valley
There’s a new secret located inside Bloomingdale’s Fashion Valley. It’s the all-new In-Store Skin Spa offered exclusively by Clarins.
“It might seem a strange idea to most American women to visit a day spa located inside a department store, but this concept has made Clarins the number-one skincare line in the U.K.,” says Chantal Sanders, senior director of Spa Development.
Clarins leases a soundproof room inside a luxury department store, near the Clarins cosmetic counter. The company hopes customers will feel it is an oasis in the mall.
Clarins opened its first day spa in Paris in 1954. It used a variety of lines, but quickly established the brand as experts in skincare. In 1980 Clarins came Stateside, and in 2003 it began the in-store spa treatment services in Europe. U.S. department stores began to offer the treatments in 2009, but the question remains: Will American women go to the department store for a day spa experience?
The Clarins facial is not like your usual steam, exfoliating, mask and extraction routine. It’s 80 percent massage techniques and follows three steps: cleansing, optimization and absorption — all for $90, usually 20 percent for the first time, or a 20-minute freebie to try it out.
With a push to introduce the newly revamped Pro Formula Collection or PRO Formula spa treatment line, the collection includes 14 new products all to be used exclusively for the launch of the TriActive Facial treatments.
Although European women include weekly facials in their regular beauty budget, most U.S. women may get a facial once every six months.
I’m one of those women. If I get a facial once a year, it would be a miracle. So, I tried the Clarins in-store spa facial. The facial itself was amazing. It felt great, my skin looked luminous, and it was extremely relaxing. Did it feel like a day spa? No. But, if you have to go to the mall anyway, and time is of the essence, why not get it all done in once place?
